Rhea Kapoor on her "most vulnerable day"

"Padman" tells the story of a man who founded a non-profit in a small town in India to provide low-cost sanitary napkins for rural women and his journey of innovation. It also stars Sonam Kapoor, Radhika Apte and Akshay Kumar. Rhea Kapoor's mother, Sunita Kapoor, is also a celebrated jewelry designer in India and has her own collection called "Sarika & Co." Sunita Kapoor works with French artist Joel Debout. In an interview with Vogue India, Sunita Kapoor said about her husband Amitabh Bachchan: "Whatever money I've spent, I've spent with his approval. If I ask for 50,000 rupees, Amitji will give it to me. I don't know whether it's because he is scared of me; if I ask for 100,000 rupees he might change his mind," says Sunita Kapoor. "But I want to make him happy.

What does her jewelry say about her?

"If you take my engagement ring, my mother got it back from a party and didn't know what it was and kept it with her for three weeks. And she came back and she was like 'Oh, my God, what have I done?' She was probably panicking for what to do with this gorgeous necklace that she'd got. But then she had this clarity of 'I'm going to have this jewelry piece.' So the ring says my mom. She's an amazing jewelry designer and she's been doing it since I was born. And my mom's jewelry says jewelry. It has beautiful pieces of diamonds and pearls, and so I think it says jewelry." What about the necklace she wore at my mother's engagement? "Well, my mom was very protective of it," she says. "She didn't like me wearing it around.

The Kapoor family legacy in fashion and jewelry

Sunita Kapoor is the founder of the Mumbai-based jewelry company, The Range. She has been making jewelry and silverware for 30 years. According to Rhea, her mother has always been very into jewelry, particularly rings. "She's a very sentimental person," she says. "I remember when I was 10, and we had a family portrait taken, she had a ring on every finger." Rhea Kapoor, meanwhile, has been in the jewelry business for quite some time now. She set up the online retailer Bhane with her sister Rhea last year, which has been gaining a lot of attention. Both sisters have been very fond of jewelry all their lives. "Growing up, I've always been intrigued by jewelry," Rhea says. "It's always been something that I had in mind.

What's next for the designer?

"We will be launching a jewelry line on September 11," she says. "I have done jewelry for the past 5-6 years. Mom's jewelry is very intricate. This is going to be something much simpler." On her "most vulnerable" day: "It was 10 years ago when I had my first miscarriage," she recalls. "It was very difficult for me. That time, I wore no makeup, and I wore a black sari." On the inspiration behind the title "Padman": "I have a special place in my heart for women. Every woman's life is equally important. It was a great idea to marry the idea of 'Padman' and 'Swachchh Bharat.' I was inspired by my mother, who came from a small village. She had a dream and that dream is the reality today. 'Padman' is about how every woman should have the right to be treated equally.
